Tamilar Inc, is a non-profit, apolitical, secular, community organisation based in Victoria. The organisation was found based on three tenets language, tradition and culture in 2011. Tamilar Inc’s aim is to protect, preserve and augment the classical Tamil language, tradition and culture within the community in Melbourne. All our objectives are derived from these three tenets.

With great joy we invite you to celebrate the Tamil New Year with your family, relatives, friends at the Annual Chitirai Thiruvizha event organised by Tamilar Inc.

You don't have to speak Tamil to come and join the fun. If you like music, dance, drama and south Indian food. We take you on the Tamil cultural journey and you are in for a treat !

Please come and share the joy of celebrating the Tamil New Year with us. Enjoy the lights, sounds and the colours on stage. Performers start from a young age of 2.5 and you will be amazed at what they do on stage.

There are a variety of performances, which are guaranteed to keep you engaged for the entire duration of the show. There will be food stalls selling hot food and yummy snacks throughout the event.

All funds raised at this event will go towards creating a curriculum for Tamil language aligned with the Victorian state syllabus.

Tamilar Inc. have been organising this event since 2011 and the popularity of this event has just grown year after year.

This year Tamilar Inc. have decided to have the event at the Collingwood Town Hall, a more central location to give an opportunity for people from all regions of Melbourne to join the celebration.

Tickets are just $10* per general entry. No other event is as grand as ours. We provide a platform for local talents to perform, shine and put together a great show of entertainment.

While it’s a demanding task to simulate the spiritual element of a festival when living overseas, one can be assured of fun & frolic away from home on such occasions. And in accordance with this, Tamilar Inc, a non-profit organization, organised an outdoor picnic to celebrate Kaanum Pongal at the Yarraville Gardens Precinct on Jan 19.

Silamboli ChellappanOn 13th October, renowned Tamil Scholar Silamboli Chellappan visited Melbourne and spoke about life as shown by Thirukkural at Point Cook. The event was attended by close to 50 people. Silamboli Chellappan is one of the foremost orators in Tamil, on Tamil Literature. He has written commentaries for over 1000 books. He has received many awards including Tamil Nadu Governments Kalaimaamani Award, Paavendar Award, Raajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar Award, Kamban Kalagam’s Tamil Saandror Award. He received the moniker “Silamboli” from Sethu Pilliai in 1954 due to his immense knowledge of Silapadikaram.

Tamilar Inc Chitirai Thiruvizha 2013 Chris Bowen, Minister of Immigration talked about 'the genius of Australian multiculturalism' and he famously said “I've seen people, proudly wearing the national dress of their homeland, clasping an Australian flag with all their might…” This passion was on display at the event organised by Tamilar Inc, a nascent not-for-profit organisation on 14th April at Finnish society hall in Melbourne to celebrate Tamil New Year day (தமிழ் புத்தாண்டு).The event attended by over 180 Tamils, ran from 5 to 10 pm and featured speeches, performance by Tamil school children, games, discussion forum and food.
